Nice post, Dee. It's fun to read about our Isles skaters once in a while since there hasn't been many things to talk about Isles wise these days.

But geez, it's good to see that Rick still knows how to turn over the puck well and make poor decisions when choosing which parts of his body he'll use to stop a shot, like that pad stack that should have just been a well-positioned save (and it turned out to be a goal.)

I know it's been a while, but he needs to show improvement after a while if he gets more game action, especially if this league is comparable to the ECHL.

Poulin's doing just fine as you wrote. There's our starter next year after Nabby leaves, assuming he does after this year's contract expires. Would be nice to see the two of them share the net though this year! Damn lockout.

Best case scenario for the Isles:

Rick Dipietro gets hit by a bus while in Europe and is put on the Chris Pronger injury list for the rest of his life.

You can never have too many Ricky updates...

@ least he's not ruining the Isles season.

If he keeps losing... he will go down with some kind of injury to save face.

My biggest problem with all this mess right now with the NHL is that the timing they used to start negotiations was ridiculous. Let's face it, they knew when the last CBA was signed that it would be expiring in September, and when did they start really negotiating? It is my firm belief that if they had started hard negotiations before they did (let's say right after the end of the seaon in June), the season wouldn't be where it is - already with 3 weeks cancelled, and possibly much much more. I really wonder who is to blame here more, the owners or the players. I do understand both sides of the situation, but I believe that unless both sides make concessions, this will be another lost season. While I do live on Long Island, this whole mess makes me wonder what happens after the NHL decides to lock out the players for the whole season. Will it mean that the Islanders are handed their eviction notice and left without a place to play after 2015? I think it's good that many of the younger islanders are playing in Bridgeport (and playing well). I am not sure if when this lockout is done if another speech from Bettman stating that the NHL has the best fans in the world will really help. I know for me it won't. The paying fans are the ones that are really stuck in the middle.

All the goals allowed by DP were pretty soft. He gets beat on his glove on first. And just flipping and flipping. He has to realize that I think it's over.

Nice win by Bridgeport again. Poulin 3 wins. Nino has 3 goals.
Anyone know if dehaan injury is severe or not?

i read in the past that you were dipietro biased because you fancied him, this has to be the undeniable proof. The last four years this guy has had seasons of 5,8,6,and 8 games played. Last season his GAA was the WORST in the entire national hockey league. he gave up almost 4 goals per game, and stopped only 87% of the shots he faced. He is now playing in a low tier league in GERMANY, and is getting lit up. Fans for the team are already crushing him on their message boards for giving up soft goals. If he were being baraged with 60 shots, you could understand, but from all accounts, he's letting in the same weak goals as we have grown accustomed to. Let it go Dee, rick is married, and hes done as a hockey player

If he's struggling this bad and not even in the NHL he needs to understand it's over. It's beyond sad. Bridgeport seems really solid. I'm not sure on DeHaan but injuries always seem to find him.

No update after the game on deHaan, per Fornabaio. Poulin looked really good. If I had to nitpick, maybe he could cover up a few more of the rebounds, but his positioning and reflexes have been solid the last two games. Even the first game, when he got scored on four times, I thought he played OK, and just had no help from the team D. He's made big saves the last two games late in the third when the other teams had their goalie pulled, too.

I hope they leave Nino down the whole year even if the lockout ends. He's doing well, but you could see he still needs to work on his game in some areas. Particularly when he has the puck in the corners...he tends to lose the puck by trying to evade checks instead of trusting his strength and leaning into the defenders, imo. The best part about his play so far is he's just crashing the net all the time. The two goals of his that I remember offhand resulted from him just going to the net and quickly firing the puck from in close.

I agree UIF. Leave him down the whole year. Should have done the same with Bailey and left him down in Bridge the rest of that year. Isles should be in real good shape with Poulin and Nilsson.

poulin doesn't catch the puck consistently and his rebound control makes me nervous...

I am an Islanders fan and I will admit that Rick must feel right at home playing on the worst team in the league. How bad has Rick been? Well their fans are already calling for him to return to the states.

QUESTION.....

Does any one know... If Rick gets hurt over there.... he didn't get hurt in the NHL.. would it not void his contract here... maybe not void his contract... but it has to effect it somehow.
I cant imagine if he got hurt playing in another country for another team he would get paid by the Isles while rehabbing once again.. and if he's not getting paid it wouldn't count on our cap.. correct????

Anyone?

Isn't that why players insured their contracts before going over? I could be wrong.
